Built on the moorland Jokuldalsheidi, this is a truly unique place to visit. This restored turf farmhouse is considered the model for the setting of the novel: “Sjálfstætt fólk” (Independent People) by Nobel Prize winner, Halldór Kiljan Laxness. The original farm was abandoned when the volcano Askja erupted in 1875. A cozy café serves traditional pancakes (lummur) and coffee.
